        The PG & Research Department of History, in collaboration with Jyoti Nivas College Autonomous, Bengaluru, organized a webinar in observance of Constitution Day on December 3, 2025. The topic of the webinar was “Women Empowerment: A Legal Perspective.”The Resource person was V.S Balamurugan Sub-Judge SecretaryDistrict Legal services Authority,Nilgiris.He  explained women’s rights from a legal perspective, focusing on constitutional guarantees of equality, statutory protections against discrimination, and international commitments. In India, the Constitution, personal laws, and judicial reforms collectively aim to empower women, though challenges remain in enforcement and societal acceptance.Key points highlighted included And also he explained about Equality before law – Guarantees equal protection of laws for men and women. Prohibition of discrimination – Bars discrimination on grounds of sex, religion, caste, etc.Positive discrimination – Allows the State to make special provisions for women and children.Right to equal opportunity – Ensures equality in public employment.Criminalization of dowry demands – Provides civil remedies and protection orders. A total of 114 participants from various colleges attended the webinar. An interactive session was also held, allowing students to clarify their doubts. The participants expressed that they were greatly benefited by the program.
